Carl Craig - At Les (Christian Smith Remixes)

imageEP Review
One of Christian Smith's favourite pieces of music, the seminal At Les by Carl Craig, has been a remix target of his for a long time, and early spins of this gem (by Dave Clarke, Slam, James Zabiela and countless others) have lead to a giant buzz on the net. Here's what we think.

This EP features just two tracks, but they are of such brilliance that you'll find yourself playing it over and over again until the end of time. First up is Smith's Tronic Treatment, a warm, emotive journey through deep house with a touch of Detroit techno. Craig's signature melodies are left intact, while soft kicks and percussion make up an amazing intro. The first climax is nothing short from perfect and will leave you breathless. The implied simplicity, depth and sheer emotional vibe make this one a captivating summer tune that you can expect to hear a lot at this year's festivals.

Flipping over there's the Hypnotica remix, a loopier and punchier affair that follows a more aggressive techno path yet still retains the vibe from the original. A big room tune like no other.

While the Hypnotica remix is a real slammer, I'd go for the superb Tronic Treatment remix if I had to pick one. God damn stunning.
