Bob Holroyd - African Drug EP (+ Four Tet Remix)Written by Youri Jozee Ambient/EXPAfrican Drug made it to Francois K's Essential Mix and Coldcut's Journeys By DJ: Coldcut - 70 Minutes Of Madness years ago, but that classic tune is now about to be rereleased -digitally- with an additional three remixes. The original tune is still as spellbinding as it was sixteen years ago, mixing several melodic layers of both soft as heavier percussion to lucent string pads. Four Tet turns the tune into an almost 12-minute long affair of truly epic proportions. The build up is genius but things really are set ablaze once the beat kicks in. A subtle combo of dynamic rhythms unfolds, with the result being a very powerful indie/house/pop/kinda tune. Genius. T.William's first mix is a sensual rework that almost sounds like a soundtrack to an African sci-fi movie with beautiful strings being placed on the many drum sounds. His second mix is more bass-fueled, taking on a dubstep-esuqe form while retaining its melodic essence. Our verdict: If you're into experimental electronic, this one's not to be missed. All tracks are exceptionally good, but the Four Tet mix takes things sky high with a harmonic version that's among the best stuff you're gonna hear this year.
