Andre Obin - Soft Rain (Patrice Bäumel & Melon Remixes)

André Obin has been releasing his indie/dance crossover cuts through Ghostly International and Moodgadget, but now turns to Amsterdam's Trouw label for remixes of his Soft Rain track.

The original track is a subtle and very enchanting indiepop song with semi-analog sounding drums, soft vocals and various layers of proggy synths. Trouw's own Patrice Bäumel turns the track into an ever deeper and dreamer affair on his Future mix remarked by thumping kicks and an emphasis on the synth structures. Melon's Extended Radio Mix is a stripped-down version of the track that sounds the most poppy of them all, after which his Extended Dub mix takes away the vocals so that the outstanding instrumentals of the original mix get the full attention. Closing this all is the Fascination Mix that gets all 'Border Community' on us with fuzzy synths and slo-mo sound patterns as its biggest strengths.The standout track of this EP (scroll down to listen).

Our verdict:
The original is a very decent indiepop tune and the remixes complement them in their own way, although on some moments things kinda start to sound the same. Luckily there's the brilliant Fascination Mix to save the day. All in all a very cool release.
