Alex Niggemann - Take Control

imageEP Review -
The next release on Audiofly's Supernature label comes from up and coming Alex Niggeman with an additional remix by Matthias Tanzmann. Here's what we think.

First up on the EP is Use Me, a stripped-down minimal house jam decorated with a variety of tech-house elements in the form of vivid shakers and instrumental snippets. Although it's well crafted and very playful at some points, the tune as a whole does lack that special ingredient to keep us hooked to the speakers for its full length.

Up next is Take Control, another very basic tune that is spiced up with very well placed hi-hats and cymbal snippers, while a funky bassline serves as the track's main pull factor. Plus there's this warm synthesizer chord groove from the middle that adds a sweaty groove to the overall. We're not too sure about the vocal though.

The Matthias Tanzmann remix of Take Control is a different kettle of fish. This one's a warm hybrid of tribal tech-house and minimal techno, with galopping drums and mild kicks paving the way for a load of deep chords and fuzzy bass wobbles. Very cool.

We've heard better stuff in the genre, but we gotta admit that Take Control and its remix definitely got it going on.
