Abe Duque - HypocrisyWritten by Youri Jozee EP ReviewAbe’s on a roll as of late. Last year he dropped the solid Don’t Be So Mean LP, spawning a series of sweet remixes by Joey Beltram, Hell and Oliver Huntemann amongst others and his 2004 hit What Happened? (produced with Blake Baxter) recently got re-released. His new EP Hypocrisy is a track that was finished too late to get on the album, but now gets the attention it deserves. It has been featured in his live sets for about 1,5 years, so chances are pretty big it sounds familiar if you’ve witnessed the man perform in past month. The original version is a deep, sinister house stomper with a massive load of fx and layered synthesizers. The tune comes with quite a lot of twists that may not always sound too exciting, yet the constant level of dancefloor power is maintained due to the many inventive effecting this track features. It’s definitely not the man’s best track, but it’s not that bad either. Just a nice little tool for the floors. Joghn Digweed & Nick Muir’s remix is a much proggier affair that reminisces of Digweed’s heyday as one of the biggest prog jocks around (which is a good thing). This rework is a very driving one, with a constant, almost hypnotizing beat and a a series of synth swirls creating a semi-epic tune that will definitely do well in dark festival tents. JD & NM’s second remix is a dubbier take at things, furtherly exploring the depths that were entered on their first remix. The original version isn’t all that; the real value here’s in the two outstanding remixes. Be sure to raid Beatport for these two monsters and amaze your friends.
