Chris Liebing’s CLR label re-releases the acclaimed Traversable Wormhole EPs (2009) in the form of a digital album, backed up with remixes by Adam X, Kevin Gorman, and Liebing himself…
In 2009 a series of five anonymously produced ink stamped vinyl recorded releases appeared in the global techno scene under the mysterious guise Traversable Wormhole. With each release being shrouded in mystery as to who was its producer, it was eventually revealed that techno veteran Adam X was the driving force behind the project.
The fact that dubstep DJs went crazy over these EPs says a lot about their genre-crossing sounds. Broken beats, industrial soundwaves, and haunting atmospheres form sinister collages full of unexpected twists & turns. Tunes such as Tachyon and Superluminal balance on the borders of techno, dubstep and electronica, while the raw rhythms in Where 2D Meets 3D, the no-nonsense Closed Time Like Curve and Spacetime Symmetries form powerful but very experimental basement techno tunes.
Perhaps the biggest strength of this release is the fact that the album as a whole tells a strangely intriguing and very adventurous story. After an ambient-esque opening, the album picks up more and more elements along the way, eventually blossoming into a heavyweight, experimental techno trip fueled by subtle yet threatening vibes and pitch black themes. A fascinating listening experience from beginning till end.
Our verdict This collection of the Traversable Wormhole EPs is a must-have for techno addicts. An album of apocalyptical beauty remarked by a jaw-dropping overall production quality.
