Toolroom Knights: Mixed By Chris Lake & TocadiscoWritten by Youri Jozee Album Review - Mark Knight’s Toolroom label recently released the latest instalment in its Toolroom Knights series. And it's getting nasty, as both Chris Lake as Tocadisco each present a disc marked by their signature house sound.  Both Chris as Tocadisco are among the most popular house artists in the field, having proven their skills with numerous gigs and likewise quality productions on the ever reliable Toolroom Knights label. Their secret? You know what you’re gonna get: pretentiousness, solid, house music for the big rooms, no more, no less. That doesn’t mean that the element of surprise is lacking. It’s quite the contrary: this edition in the TR series contains more than enough twists and turns to keep you clinging on to your speakers. The first disc has been mixed by Tocadisco and opens with one of Toolroom’s most successful records of the past months: the soulful, piano-driven Found A Place by Tony Lionni. Across 15 tracks, Tocadisco lays down a funky house mix with loads of techy tribal bits, soulful vocals and pumping rhythms that all have one thing in common: they’re all of big effect on the floor, you can trust us on that. There’s not a single soul that can sit still on Oxia’s Whole Life, or the massive Almaviva by Christian Smith. Add the smooth mixing and a continuous drive to that and you got yourself one helluva mix that will bang any box. On disc two, Chris Lake embarks on an equally slamming trip, opening with the MASSIVE Uner & Coyu Remix of Noir & Westboys’ She's Got My Heart and continuing with techy cuts by Fabian Argomedo and Lake & Lys’ La Tromba remixed by Riva Starr. As the mix progresses, Lake occasionely takes a few step backs to have a more electro house flow do the business, then takes off again towards tech-house jams such as Tommyboy's Kamavtu (Rene Amesz Remix) and the stunning Carnivale by Filthy Rich. With a powerful and well mxied blend of electro house and tech-flavored tunage, LAke amanges to lay down a wallshaking second disc. Both Tocadisco as Chris Lake deliver their own impressive take on contemporary house music, creating a perfectly balanced and respectable edition in the TK series. In fact, it's the very best in the series till date, which is a daring statement as stakes were set quite high with so many cool mixes already being served. Yet, its ongoing drive, floorfiller potential, brillaint rchoice of records and flawless mixing make this edition a stand-out delivery by two of the hottes jocks around. One to play loud in your convertible. Rating: 7.9/10 Tracklist CD 1: Mixed by Tocadisco CD 2: Mixed By Chris Lake
