Pulshar - Inside

imageAlbum Review -

Work, Live and Study... In the United States of Pulshar! BnB's Mihail Stamenov reviews Pulshar's latest LP, a fascinating trip through the depths of dub and electronica...

Before moving to the main point of this subject let me just take you through the story of how I got my hands onto this piece of music. The first time I listened to the Inside LP, I was on the bus headed home... and I remember I hadn't been sleeping for like over 20 hours, so you get the picture. I was tired as hell, but still I knew I had to get my ears warmed up, since I wanted to come up with something for this review. Anyways.. So I'm pulling out my BlackBerry headset, plugging it in the mobile device, etc, etc. and I press play...

I could just not ignore, even know I was dying to get some sleep, the Intro wich kind of "drew" me into the world of Pulshar (I guess we could say you get the feeling of "Alice In Wonderland" in a sense..). For a moment  I wondered where was that Intro taking me to, and the answer came shortly after that. Soon I realised that the tracks started tickling even the endmost corners of my imagination, with their light sound and reverberant tones. An excellent, colourful blend of dub, raggae & ambient.

The structure of the tracks is kind of interesting.. You have an Intro marked at the beggining then following are 9 tracks of brain-washing chill-outness, which at moments seems to be crossing borders with hip-hop.. but that's just my opinion. An interesting fact is that the third track is named after a famous area in Paris, France known for its cafe's and restaurants (assuming it is related in some way to the duo). The name of the area actually stems from "Mount Parnassus" - the home to the 9 greek goddesses according to Greek Mythology. And you're asking me.. what does this have to do with the album.. ? Nothing, actually. Just a little extra-something I read for you. Then you have the 11 track wich is sort of like an outro similarly to the sounding of the Intro, although it is not really titled "Outro", it pretty much does function as one since it appears to be briefer than the other tracks. The 12th track, would be appropriate in my opinion to be called a bonus track, sinc the 11th reminds of an "end" of the album. Really easy on the ear track, titled "Stepping Stones", with its raggae grooves and acoustic guitars, I can almost imagine myself at the Hawaii beach as I listen to this tune.

So this is it. An overall of 12 funky tracks from these dudes. I think most of the fans of electronic music and raggae fans would find it interesting to listen to. I, personally,  enjoyed listening to the album.. Well, maybe I fell asleep on some of the tracks but that's just because I find it a bit relaxing.

Final verdict: In my opinion Pulshar really took the time to work on the album, with the result being a unique sounding blend that's hard to attach to a certain genre or definition. Interesting and reminding of nothing I've heard before. It's definitely not the type of music you will break your neck to in a club, but it brings up a nice chill out, relaxing atmosphere. Easy on the ears music you should be checking out.
