Passarella Death Squad - Passarella Death Squad

imageAlbum Review -

Well hey there again. This time we're going to discuss the Passarella Death Squad's self-titled debut album, as they recently have been signed to the Republic Of Desire Recordings.

Sometimes I like to say that there are two sides to every story, I guess this case is no different. Listening to the album was a bit unusual to me, since I expected something more... Well, let's just say something more. So let's move on further and take a look at both sides to this unusual piece of work.

Side A:
Here we go. The album consists of a total of 10 tracks. Each track comes with its own sounds and arrangement, brings up nice deep bass sound and groovy drum patterns. And even though, each track's sounding is individual, still the overall mood of the album remains intact. What is interesting here is that the trio started as fashion designers making clothes and eventually ended up with a clothing line.. and a soundtrack to their clothes, I guess. Actually this happened to be one of the thoughts that ran through my mind - that the album, kind of, sounds like a soundtrack to a movie or
a motion picture of some kind. I can imagine the music playing in the background of a video that displays selected moments from a full-length movie. This is my perspective as a person who loves and feels art, understands it and knows it should be universal and versatile in every form that exists..

Side B:
..While if I have to take a look at a "ordinary music fan's" point of view, I'd have to say that it can get a bit boring, and even wearisome listening to this. Today's average music fan, looks for something more commercial. More funky and lively tunes. This here is a bit dark, and clumsy with Emilie Albisser's monotonous vocal over the whole thing. It's like some french drunk girl, got home from a club, got bored, downloaded a bunch of vampire movie soundtracks, and started singing all over the stuff.. I don't want to be too harsh, but I feel the average listener can be a bit too picky and fastidious these days, and endangering his ear ca be risky.

Conclusion:
I feel that when people read music reviews they expect information that can actually let them, pull theirselves in the right direction. If it's really worth the time and money for the music. So my personal opinion is that, to a musician or to a movie director for example (..or if  you're looking for that kind of music for some purpose), this could sound perfectly unusual, and a bit interesting since people of art have abstract pictures in their mind about what's going on around.. This could either sound intriguing to you if you are more into experimental stuff , and you're tired of listening to the average type of tracks.. Or either depress you to "death", and make you turn off your player or skip to the next possible track.

I mean.. what's the worse that could happen..? They can still use it for fashion-shows if nobody listens to it. (:
