BnB Review: Murphy Jax – We DanceWritten by Manu Ekanayake Chi-town house -Heavy Chi-town-sounding beats from Murphy Jax, the new star in Tiga’s Turbo camp.
Some people just manage, through a combination of skills and charisma, to ally themselves with the best and the brightest in their chosen field of endeavour. And if a man is judged by the company he keeps, then things are looking good for Murphy Jax – he released his first track, It’s The Music, with the mighty Clone Records (of Dutch infamy) last year, but now he’s hooked up with the infamous Tiga’s Turbo Recordings for this very groovy Chi-townish house & techno offering. You can hear the influence of Mr Jax’s friends Mike Dunn, Alden Tyrell and especially BnB’s main man Legowelt on thumping jams like Suburban Path, which is totally something that Tiga would play. But things can go a bit more spacey (with Time To Bump) and a bit more 80s house / Mr Intl. on the opener We Dance. But we reckon the hidden gem here is the darkly Warriors-like 8Bit Epos, which is just pure soundtrack-to-a-big-chase-scene in a classic 70s film. And that’s a compliment. This guy has definitely got skills, but we reckon the best is still to come from the talented Mr Jax. Our verdict:
Tiga’s got it right with this guy – good synthy, dubbed-out, bass-heavy electronics. When it sounds this much like some early Chi-town stuff, you can’t really go wrong.
