Filterwolf - Music From Tomorrow

imageAlbum Review
Bosnian born & now Munich based Adnan Duric dons his Filterwolf hat for this debut album on one of my favourite labels at the moment, Process Recordings, home to the likes of the excellent King Roc and Abe Duque.

To kick start proceedings, Filterwolf shows us his knack for creating sonic soundscapes with the opening intro “Frequency Of Eden”. Having previously scored soundtracks to film and animation shorts, his experience shines through on this one minute ethereal excursion. After this quick intro we are met with the four four techno of “Sofia”, which stands as a blueprint for the whole album.
Solid kick drums, ethnic chanting, rolling Teutonic bass lines and cleverly arranged melodies are all present and correct, and this theme is present throughout, making this a fully realised album.

Following that, “Acrobat” comes across like the bastard love child of late Eighties Belgian New Beat and Ofra Haza. What makes this work so well is the musicality of it all, with guitar strums interspersed with middle eastern melodies and that all important groove.
The first single from the album, “Nocturne” is up next, and once again those ethnic samples are used to good effect, but this time married with a Robert Owens style male vocal, electro keys & super tight production. And like I have already mentioned, this concept is continued throughout the next eight tracks. Other highlights are the monstrously beefy “Neo Aux” with it’s addictive bass pattern and trippy synths and the Disco-Tech (new genre alert, see also Bohemian Grove & Spangle Headz)) sounds of closing track 'Hedonistica”

So in all a superb album, one that is hard to categorize, but has that all important factor needed for music like this to work as a complete album, and that is it is good to listen to at home as well as working so well in club environments. Also would make for a great live set I imagine. Recommended.
