This year's Cocoon Ibiza bashes carry the title Party Animals, which is a well chosen name given the fact that Cocoon's bashes at Amnesia are amongst the best on the isle. Let's check if this dedicated two-disc compilation can live up to the expectations.

 

Party Animals has been mixed by two of Cocoon's hottest -Marco Carola and Nick Curly- and offers no less than 36 tracks. On the tracklist we find names such as Martin Buttrich, Joseph Capriati, Mihai Popoviciu Butch and many more, by which this release provides a nice overview of what you can expect on a typical Cocoon at Ibiza night.

Marco Carola mixed the first disc and starts off with Zebra Talk Den Remix by Someone Else and slowly builds from a real minimal orientated sound to a more housy groove over the span of eight tracks. With the same ease Carola takes a few steps back and plunges into a deeper flow with Suicide Birds from the hands of Coletone followed by Gabe & D-Nox'Little Patience. All tracks are mixed together seamlessly and effortlessly so it seems, which creates an harmonic vibe during its playtime. Halfway the mix Marco Carola pays tribute to his fellow Italian Joseph Capriati with Tapa Boca which undoubtedly is the highlight of the first disc. Carola continues along his minimal/techno path and steadily builds towards the end. The mix is then closed with Martin Buttrich's Hoochie Mama and the massive Audiofly remix of Layo & Bushwacka's The Longest Day.

The second disc is taken care of by Nick Curly who presents a much more house orientated mix. His deep house and techno orientated sounds are highly energetic and offer you high volume moments more than once. Along the way he blends in some real soulful and funky elements which enhance the Ibizian vibe during his mix.

With his mix of vocals, dub, techno and even some jazzy influences Nick offers a more organic sound then Marco did in his take. El Ladron de Mails by Francisco Allendes & Marcelo Rosselot, Markus Fix' The Dark Side Of Bo and Lee Burridge & Matthew Dekay's Wongel are the standout tracks.

Overall Cocoon Party Animals offers you a nice preview on an Ibizan Cocoon night at Amnesia during this summer season. Both Carola and Curly succeeded in transfering their energy during a live gig to their CD's. So wheter you are going to Ibiza this year, or are wishing you were going, this CD will get you in the mood for sunshine and mad nocturnal rave shenanigans.
