BnB Review: Various Artists - 10 Years Of Secretsundaze

imageHouse -

As they’re celebrating ten years of throwing top-of-the-bill-parties in London, secretsundaze duo James Priestley & Giles Smith drop their 3rd double mix CD… and it’s highly recommended to non-Londoners too.

Given the fact that yours truly has never been to a secretsundaze party, I just have to take our man-in-the-field Manu's word for it that the events are among the most notorious in the UKs capital. What I do know is that their previous compilations were off the hook, so expectations were quite high to say the least. Let’s take a closer look at what James Priestley & Giles Smith have to offer…

Up first is James, whose part of the release is a warm, mid-paced blend of fuzzy house, some disco-y stuff, and jacking Chi-town material, in which we get to hear a serious load of bomb tracks. Racks such as Space Dimension Controller’s Transatlantic Loading Bay, Franck Roger’s chunky My Name Is, and the spacey, somewhat leftfield Tan Sedan by Locussolus are set against a canvas of very colorful tunage, with the mix itself being an ever-shapeshifting flow of dynamic electronic music. Nice, very nice.

On the second disc, Giles takes a housier and techier route in the form of fourteen heavy hitting cuts. Things immediately kick off punchy with Specter’s Make Me Feel and the huge Salt City Orchestra’s Out There mix of Marshall Jefferson vs. Noosa Heads’ Mushrooms, after which we’re taken on an ever deeper journey with Chicago & Detroit-tinged tracks such as Anthony Shakir’s haunting Travellers (MRSK remix), Steven Tang’s red hot Ominous and the incredibly sexy Always Twirling from Tornado Palace. Hotter and deeper that CD 1, but at least as solid.

Our verdict:
James & Giles know what the kids want these days, and this compilation gives it to ya. Two discs of killer house and techno you can’t afford to miss.
