BnB Review: Robert Babicz - Vol.001Written by Youri Jozee House/Techno - Robert Babicz compiles some of his best work, together with stunning new material, on his new label Babiczstyle. First up on the label is a compilation titled Vol. 001. Full review below!
This first edition in the label’s Volume series is a collection of 5 upfront tracks, 6 previously only available on vinyl, and a new remix by Davi which altogether makes it look like an album instead of a mere compilation. The promo copy we received contains 9 tracks, but we reckon this gives a pretty good overview of the final product. All tracks (most of which are over 8 minutes long) reflect Babicz’ unmistakable sound that borders between melodic progressive and stomping house and techno. Opening track Bangaday kicks off the album with a heavy bass-laden rhythm, after which we get to hear plenty of diversity in the form of extremely well put together compositions to keep us nailed to the speakers. Highlights are the James Holden-esque My Blue Car and the extremely catchy The Sun, as well as the mid-tempo Time Shift that leans on mean bass stabs and acidy chirps. But to be honest, pretty much all tunes on this compilation are ace. Our verdict Tracklist (promo copy):
