BnB Review: Helmut Dubnitzky - We Walk

imageTech-house

We Walk is the debut album from mastering engineer, sound designer Brise label founder and mountain climber Helmut Dubnitzky. But can he cling to our attention too?

We Walk is comprised of tech-housy 11 tracks that all feature a more or less cinematic approach, with minimally stripped beats being combined to multiple layers of melodies in each track. What it does lack, however, is a sound and vision of its own. Despite most of the tracks being structured professionally, we can't help but to feel that we've heard infinitively better in the past. Opening track Move is a very weak and repetitive track, but things get slightly better from that moment on. Tunes such as the playful We Walk, the puncy Detroit-ish Respect & Glory and the chunky Da Funk are great plays, with a few very nice twists, dreamy sounds and fx. However, there's just too much uninspired material in between, we're sorry to say...

Our verdict:

The majority of the tracks on We Walk are quite okay, but 'quite okay' doesn't do it anymore these days. It takes more than a crisp production to create a memorable album. We Walk has become the musical equivalent of a walk in the park, a pitfall in today's demanding industry.
