Hardfloor have been around since the early nineties and made a name for themselves with the excellent Acperience EPs on Sven Vath’s Harthouse label. Their sound hasn’t changed that much over the years and whereas this often leads to repetitions of past successes, Hardfloor have managed to come up with 11 fresh sounding cuts.
Rhythms are still deeply rooted in oldschool sounding but upgraded 909-esque patterns and decorated with wobbly acid bass stabs. Tracks such as One Flew Over The Silverbox and TB Or Not TB reminisce of aforementioned Acperience EPs, yet more hauntingly and darker and richer in sound, while cuts such as You Know The Score and 4Th Dimension Of The 5th Ward sees the boys turning to the industrial side of electro. Mint tracks? All tunes are ace really, but if we had to pick two we’d go for The Return Of The Analog Multichrist with its manic, twisted acid patterns and raw techno grooves, and the pumping insanity on F.U.B.A.R.
Our verdict: After dozens of lame minimal tunes packed 303-ripoffs, it’s good to hear some quality acid from some of the tastemakers in the genre. Hardfloor’s many years of experience pays off in the form of another very convincing album that combines two decades of house, acid and techno. A must-have for acid heads, simple as that.
