BnB Review: Dominik Eulberg - Diorama

imageTechno -

The man with a passion for all things natural and organic (in the broadest sense of the word), is set to release his new album Diorama next month on Traum. And it’s conception is a rather intriguing affair, to say the least…

We’ve come to know Dominik as a musician with an unconditional love for the wonders of the world around him, something he continues to pay tribute to on his fourth album as well. For Diorama, Dominik and German nature magazine NABU selected 11 ‘wonders of domestic nature’, with the result being 11 tributes in the form of both meandering electronica and elegant bits of techno.

The album opens with Taeschungs-Blume, a glistening mixture of deep bell-synths and a slow-moving broken rhythm that is followed up by the bass-driven Echomaus, a driving semi-club track with a lovely breakdown. Over the course of the next few tracks, it becomes evident that esthetic melodies still form the basis of Dominik’s tracks, a feature that blossoms on well-structured cuts such as Islandmuschel 400 and the brilliantly layered Die 3 Millionen Musketiere. The second half of the CD holds a few of Dominik’s best electronica tracks till date. H2O and Aeronaut are two very exquisite tracks to kick back to, while second last closing track Wenn Es Perlen Regnet provides a charming ending in the form of a playful piece of minimal techno with fresh bits of melodic layers.

Our verdict:

The album’s concept definitely adds another dimension to the overall, with the end result being a great set of elegantly produced electronica and techno tracks in which melodics and beats form a compelling combination. Dominik once again puts his talent for translating natural themes into crisp clear cuts on an album that can definitely be called his most diverse and adventurous till date.
