Two of the most exciting DJ duo's of recent times, Wolf + Lamb and Soul Clap team up for this long awaited DJ-KiCKS compilation. Full analysis after the jump.
“We want to bring the sexiness back to the dancefloor”. These are the words of Eli Goldstein & Charles Levine (Soul Clap) and Gadi Mizrahi & Zev Eisenberg (Wolf + Lamb), who as a matter of fact have been dropping a significant amount of smooth ‘n sexy house and disco-tinged cuts over the past few years. A mix for the renowned DJ-KiCKS series only seemed a matter of time and now it’s here, much to the rejoice of clubbers and critics alike.
The 27-track compilation is a solid overview of where both duo’s are at in terms of sound these days. Its tracklist is dominated by warm and sensual disco cuts with a twist, some house-orientated grooves plus a handful of off-beat experiments, which makes it a very diverse affair. The tempo of the mix tends to vary throughout its playtime and although this ensures a constant dynamic flow, it also results in the mix not having clearly identifiable peaks, except near the end when things get a bit more clubbier. This makes the mix more of an emotive listening trip that consists of rich layers of funk guitars, groovy percussions, and silky synthesizers spread across soulful mid-tempo bumpers and downtempo/off-beat tunes to chill by.
Our verdict: All in all a well produced and adventurous trip through disco-ey tracks that bear Soul Clap’s and Wolf + Lamb’s sound all over, although just a little bit more spice would have done the mix good. Still, well worth checking out.
