BnB Review: Circoloco @ DC10 Ibiza 2011 - The Next Level

Ibiza’s legendary club night Circoloco celebrates the new season with a compilation mixed by CL residents Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann… full review after the break.
Everybody who’s been to Ibiza in the past few years knows that the CL crew know how to get a crowd dance their asses of. Resident jocks Davide Squillace and Matthias Tanzmann have been playing together for years, so it was an obvious choice to have them helm this compilation. The mix has become a solid representation of the CL sound, which basically revolves around tech fuelled house and funky bass-driven floorfillers. Opening strong with Davide Squillace & Luca Bacchetti’s Around The Bay (Carola Pistora Remix), the mix quickly moves on to Balearic tribalism with tracks such as Nikola Gala’s bodyrocking I Get U, the deep and swampy Mr. Ray from Sven Tasnadi and Juno6, and Nil By Mouth’s Fibula, a stripped but downright dirty mover with great drum swirls. On the overall, the mix doesn’t get too bumpy or uplifting: soulful vibes and deep grooves is what this mix is all about, and the mix does feature a few moments of weakness here and there. Some of the best tracks are saved for last, such as the Chicago-esque Sex, Drug, Dance (Blind Minded Remix) by BNZO and the beefy Sascha Dive Remix of Matthew Dear’s Little People (Black City), which is the highlight of the mix as a whole.
If you’re planning on coming down to one of the CL parties this summer, be sure to prepare yourself by playing this compilation at high volume. For everyone else, this is just a solid collection of funky, soulful (tech-)house that’s worth every penny.
