BnB Review: Boysnoize Presents Super AcidWritten by Youri Jozee Acid / Electro - Boysnoize Records pays homage to two decades of acid house with a compilation on which the label's most prolific artists get freaky with the 303. Worth your cold hard cash? The sound of acid has never really disappeared after its return to the underground in the mid-nineties. In fact, the not-so-delicate sound of the 303 seems to be making a comeback, especially over the past few years, as numerous producers from all walks of life seem to have rediscovered the absolute floor annihilation the 303 is capable of triggering when used properly. The folks over at Boysnoize Records appear to feel the same way too, as they’ve teamed up for this bad ass compilation featuring 12 brand new acid tracks that aim to mix some of the ol’ magic with au courant Boysnoize beats. So, what do you get when those crazy electro rockers at Boysnoize play around with the 303 (or 303 clone, plug-in… iPhone app for that matter)? The answer, my friend, is simple: sheer madness. This Super Acid compilation is crammed with acid mutations of such filth that brain melting is imminent upon hitting play. Boysnoize himself opens with a very vintage sounding acid house track titled 1010, after which Jan Driver’s slow paced techno (Army Of Mowers), and Housemeister & Dave Tarrida’s evil Bleep continue to showcase the wide applicability of the 303. Any weak moments too? Few, luckily. Shadow Dancer’s Silver has its moments but compared to the rest it’s not that great, and the same applies to the jam-style The Beats by Strip Steve. However, great tunes such as Death Suite by Erol Alkan & Boysnoize and the extremely powerful LSD by Benny Rodrigues make up for that in style. Our verdict: Stand out tracks: Housemeister & Dave Tarrida – Bleep, Erol Alkan & Boys Noize – Death Suite (Erol Alkan Edit), Benny Rodrigues – LSD Rating: 7.8/10
