BnB Review: Art Bleek - Art SuppliesWritten by Youri Jozee Album Review - Art Bleek releases his latest album Art Supplies on Loungin’ Recordings. A very surprising album, to say the least… Or is it? The natural born musician has been around for over ten years and has extended his craftsmanship over a wide variety of projects and genres. Whereas some might know him only for his superb house tunes, Art also has a long history of playing in chamber groups and full orchestras as well as producing music for films, television and contemporary plays. His latest LP has become a combination of Art’s broad musical scope, weaving house, funk, jazz, hip-hop and groove across thirteen tracks. The album as a whole reflects a very jazzy and meandering atmosphere from the very beginning. Into Knowledge draws on 90s R&B, whilst tracks such as Pain Or Pleasure (ft. Ursula Rucker) and Night Nurse (ft. Voice) border between the fine lines of funk and hiphop. Stand-out tunes on the albums are to be found in abundance really, but perhaps one of the finest cuts is the late-night-summer-funk-boogie track of Friends (with outstanding vocal contributions from Mandel Turner), and the juicy alley cat grooves on Shake It, a track tailored for the bedroom. Our verdict Art Supplies merges a variety of funky elements into a very convincing, exceptionally well produced but above all very sexy LP. Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for something sunny to play during these harsh winter days. Rating: 8.2/10 Label: Loungin’ Recordings Release date: December 20th, 2010
